Labor Day weekend is coming up – what are your plans? Set up some fun for your three-day-weekend while you relax and celebrate this unofficial end of summer.

Stay close to home and spend the evening at The Woodlands Waterway on Sunday, September 2 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm. This annual festival just keeps getting better, with this year’s addition being a pie eating event sponsored by House of Pies. A youth and adult contest will be held, starting at 6:30 pm. Free crafts for kids and complimentary face painting will keep little ones entertained, and live music will fill the air all evening long. Don’t leave before the fireworks, which will begin just before 9:00 pm.

Head downtown to catch your World Champion Houston Astros in a game against the Athletics, Angels or Twins. Their homestand begins on Monday, August 27 and extends through Wednesday, September 7, so there are plenty of opportunities to catch your team in action.

If you’re more of a football fan, you can catch two local teams kick off their season when the University of Houston Cougars play the Rice Owls at Rice Stadium at 11 am on Saturday, September 1.

A trip to the shore is a great way to cap off the summer season. You can find hotel specials all across Galveston to make a weekend trip, or just head down for the day and spend some time in the sun at any of the public beaches. Apffel, Stewart and Galveston Island parks are great places to take a dip in the ocean while enjoying the sun and sand. And don’t forget a stop at La King’s Confectionery before you head back home.

However you choose to celebrate this weekend, make sure to take a break from your labors and relax with your family, as that is what this holiday is all about!
